The two-seater, which starts at $69,000 and runs up to $92,000 (based on the engine), is not your father's Jaguar. In fact, the F-TYPE collection is probably unlike any you've seen in a classic Jaguar showroom before. Sure, the company is no stranger to rolling out luxury sedans, XK coupes and 2 x 2 convertibles, but it's shied away from its heritage of performance cars for more than five decades. It's ready to get back into the game, and it's leaning on social media to get the word out.
The car, which comes in a variety of colors, is built like an airplane with sleek aluminum casing, and 85% of its body is made from recyclable material. The technology is hidden, but it's there. There are hidden door handles and shark-like gills on either side of the grille as well as a full entertainment system with GPS navigation and smartphone connectivity.
There are many elements designed specifically for the race track that are fun to play with on the street, too. For example, the entertainment system includes a stopwatch, so you can see how fast it takes to do your daily commute. It also features a G-Force Meter, which shows how hard you are breaking or cornering, while a pedal graph reveals what you can be doing better, such as accelerating sooner.
Although Jaguar doesn't do retro designs anymore, the F-TYPE takes a few cues from its past. The original E-TYPE had several toggle aircraft-style switches for the controls, and the same is included in the new design. Most of the functions are included in the touchscreen, but Jaguar finds a good balance of including quick keys along the sides for common controls. The feel is certainly modern — there's no wood at all within the interior, which is a stray from Jaguar's signature look.
Not to mention the convertible top goes up and down in 12 seconds, which makes it one of the fastest in the world. You'll be able to put down the top during a traffic light without rushing.
